I confess that I took some literary license here. Senator Robert C. Byrd, (D-WV) actually cast his vote for “health care reform” and proclaimed, “”This is for my friend Ted Kennedy, aye.” He did not mention his constituency, or the people of the United States. It is thought that later today there will be a meeting of the Robert W. Byrd admiration and self adulation society where the Exalted Cyclops is expected to nominate something to be named after him to add to the list of 30 plus Robert W. Byrd roads, buildings, institutions, etc. You know for the people. You have to give the people something. Wouldn’t be right otherwise. I nominate an insane asylum.

Old Klansmen never die. They just vote and vote and vote…
I have been reviewing the list above for something hinky involving the Exalted Cyclops. I homed in on the obvious – Naval Station Sugar Grove, W.V. Where do they berth the ships? It turns out to be quite legitimate. The Naval Station was established in the same year the Exalted Cyclops was elected to the Senate, 1959. It is a Naval Security Group activity.
I was amazed about the (http://coldwar-c4i.net/Sugar_Grove/history.html) amount of information available on the internet about Sugar Grove. My father spent half his military career in the Air Force Security Service the A.F. counterpart of this type of activity. I am somewhat familiar with the concept of remote radio intercept sites. In fact Sugar Grove has an Air Force Detachment involved in operations.
I am now curious about the naming of a military community center after a sitting senator. We have several military activities located here in Military City, U.S.A. I cannot recall a single street, building or activity named after a politician and certainly not a sitting politician. Fort Sam Houston does come to mind, but, an Exalted Cyclops certainly does not rise to the President of a Republic level.
I am going to further investigate what is named after whom on military installations.
It does have a stink of political patronage out-of-control. I’d be very interested in learning the results of your investigation.
Of course who knows when this investigation will be completed. I have to think about how to go about it. I am frequently on Lackland, Randolph and Ft. Sam Houston and can not recall off hand anything named after anyone but dead soldiers.
btw – Happy New Year!
Same to you, Farmer. How about a post with your e-mail address and what area you live in in Virginia. I will delete it so that it doesn’t appear here. I lost your address in a computer crash.
