Unreconstructed Southerners

Don’t just research great grandpa and stop.  If you have one Confederate ancestor I would surmise you probably have two or more.  This ancestor of yours wasn’t out there by himself.  He probably had brothers, uncles, cousins and in laws fighting for the cause.

Let’s not just honor our heritage.  Let’s honor the memory of these men by finding out who they were and who their family is today.  My list below I know probably has some flaws.  This is a work in progress.  I would not have formatted the list like this, the computer did it for me but, I am in a hurry.  I am going out of town Friday.

You notice there are some very distant cousin relationships.  I, like others, thought little of “distant cousin” relationships until one day I realized all cousins share a grandparent.  The first name on my list, James Read Branch, shares a great grandparent with me named Christopher Branch who came to Virginia in 1625.  Christopher Branch is James Read’s 5th great grandparent and my 8th great grandparent.  All Jeters are descended from John Jeter of Laystolfe, Suffolk County, England who came to Virginia sometime after 1683.
